10 Deaths That Movies Totally Forgot About
2. Ilsa Faust - Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
One of the most disappointing death scenes from any recent movie is the demise of fan favourite character Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, or as it's now informally called, simply Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
Ilsa is stabbed to death by villain Gabriel (Esai Morales), but her demise is so unceremonious, so barely lingered upon, that fans immediately assumed she'd make a glorious return from the "dead" either at the end of this movie or in the sequel.
The vibe in Dead Reckoning is that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the rest of his team don't have time to mourn because they've quite literally got a train to catch.
And while this movie is long enough already, it absolutely could've used a breather to let Ilsa's death sink in.
In the very least, the recent follow-up, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, could've had Ethan and co. gather at Ilsa's grave, yet she's barely mentioned at all in the movie, almost as though she stopped mattering the moment she died.
For all the jokes about Hayley Atwell's Grace basically being Ilsa's replacement in the last two movies, it genuinely feels like she was - that because Rebecca Ferguson found the series' lengthy production schedule prohibitive to her doing other work, they brought in someone else to speedily take her place.
Given that Ilsa is arguably the series' single best character, and certainly far more of an actual character than Hunt himself, she got done damn dirty in these last two films.
