10 Deeply Depressing Origin Stories Of Horror Villains

9. Maniac Cop

Michael Myers

One of the more obscure monsters on this list, Matt Cordell - the titular Maniac Cop - was once a celebrated officer of the law. For his trouble, he was framed by the corrupt Mayor and the fellow government officals in his pocket, and locked up in Sing Sing Correctional Facility. You know what happens to cops in jail? Matt put up a good fight, but was duly destroyed by his fellow inmates.

You can't keep a good lawman down though, and the undead Matt now roams the streets of New York like Jason Voorhees crossed with the Punisher, murdering crooks, innocents and fellow lawmen alike (including the Evil Dead's Bruce Campbell!).

We'd maybe have stayed on the guy's side if he'd stuck to trashing the scum, but once you come for poor old Tom Atkins (chucked out of a window) and Bruce Campbell (slaughtered while reading a newspaper), you're dead to us, undead cop.
