10 Deeply Depressing Origin Stories Of Horror Villains

7. Billy Chapman

When you think about it, Santa Claus is a pretty scary guy. A big red bearded fellow who sneaks down your chimney at night, keeping tabs on your behaviour? It's a wonder more kids haven't developed a Santa-phobia by now. Pity poor Billy Chapman, who bore witness to the rape and murder of his parents by a man dressed as Santa, on Christmas Eve.

Rather than becoming some sort of Santa themed Batman, the grown-up Billy, after one triggering trauma too many, turns serial killer, chopping up his colleagues and going after the cruel nun who only compounded his trauma at the orphanage.

Although Billy was killed before he could take his massacre any further, that didn't stop him from passing on his hang-ups to his kid brother, who would go on to take up the serial killer Santa mantle in the film's sequel.
