10 Deeply Depressing Origin Stories Of Horror Villains

4. The Hills Have Eyes

"We went into the mines, you set off your bombs and turned everything into ashes. You've made us what we've become. Boom! Boom!"

Just simple families, living in the hills/mountains of New Mexico. Then along comes the American military, demanding that they abandon their homes and find somewhere else to live. It's tough luck for those who remain once the bombs start dropping, and the survivors become irradiated mutants, breeding more of the same down the line.

When you put it like that (and this is explored to its fullest in the Hills Have Eyes' 2007 prequel comic), you almost have to feel for the mutants of the Hills Have Eyes. All sympathy, however, is quickly extinguished once they start eating babies and raping unsuspecting tourists.
