10 Delayed Sequels That Really Weren't Worth The Wait
3. Blues Brothers 2000 (18 Years)
Saturday Night Live sketch turned double platinum recording artists Jake and Elwood Blues made the leap to the big screen in 1980, with the result being an endlessly re-watchable cult classic, packed full of star cameos and armed with a brilliant soundtrack and one of the greatest car chases ever put to film. Just why anybody thought that a sequel would work almost 20 years later and without John Belushi is anybody's guess, and it came as no surprise that Blues Brothers 2000 turned out to be a critical and commercial flop. Unsurprisingly, the movie's only real saving grace is the soundtrack, which again features a well-known cavalcade of musical guest stars. Director John Landis and star Dan Akroyd both seem to be coasting on autopilot, with both happy to retrace the steps of the original instead of trying something remotely different. Lazy and uninspired, Blues Brothers 2000 is an entirely unnecessary follow-up that makes you want to go back and watch the original instead.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
