10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Star Trek Moments

1. Star Trek (2009) - Klingon Prison Planet

STAR TREK NERO
Paramount Pictures

The Mystery:

What were Nero and the crew of the Narada doing for 25 years? Why didn't they just repair their ship and immediately head to Vulcan to destroy it?

The Deleted Scene:

In the most interested material deleted from Star Trek (2009), after the Narada is disabled by the USS Kelvin, the ship is surrounded by a fleet of Klingon warbirds. Following the 25 year jump, it's revealed that the Klingons have captured Nero and his crew and held them on their prison planet, Rura Penthe. When the Klingons discover Nero's notes and calculations, they realize he's from the future and offer to help him in exchange for information about the Federations' weaknesses.

Victor Garber plays the helmeted Klingon interrogating Nero and informing the audience about Nero's objective and motivations. He also introduces Nero to the Centaurian slug which Nero would later use on Captain Pike. Before the Klingon's can get information out of him, Nero attacks them, releases Ayel, and the scene cuts away.

The next time we see Nero and the Narada, they're just in time for Spock to arrive in the 23rd century via black hole. Uhura later states that the Narada had attacked the prison planet and destroyed 47 Klingon warbirds, but the Klingons and Rura Penthe remain off camera in the final cut of Star Trek (2009), arguably to the film's detriment.
