10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Star Trek Moments

3. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan - Peter Preston

STAR TREK NERO
Paramount Pictures

The Mystery:

Who was the crewman who died in Scotty's arms in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan?

The Deleted Scene:

In the theatrical version of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the young officer who Kirk meets in the engine room and later appears charred and near death in Scotty's arms after the initial battle with Khan is just that, some young officer. However, deleted material included a bit of dialogue explaining that young midshipman Peter Preston is actually Scotty's nephew. This further explains why Scotty would be so devastated by Preston's injuries in the battle that he would haul his body to the bridge to shock everyone, rather than immediately take the kid to see Doctor McCoy.

The scene is contained in Nick Meyer's director's cut that is actually available in both blu-ray and digital formats, unlike the other extended cuts of Star Trek films which remain, sadly, unreleased in high def.
