10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Movie Character Backstories

9. Billy Beane - Moneyball

Moneyball combines two of America's great pastimes - baseball and maths.

Or should that be "math" if it's American?

Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane, manager of the Oakland Athletics. The team is in a financial pit, so Beane uses an experimental form of mathematical analysis to scout the best players for the lowest price.

It sounds boring, but it's not.

Billy is presented as down on his luck, still recovering from a divorce. However, eagle-eyed viewers may notice that he is seen wearing a wedding ring throughout the movie.

This means two things:

1) You have too much time on your hands.

2) Beane is still hung up on his ex-wife, right?

Wrong!

In a deleted scene, we find out that Billy actually got hitched a second time to a woman played by Kathryn Morris. What was this woman called? No idea! Morris' Wikipedia page simply lists the role as "Billy Beane's Wife".

Morris' inclusion in the film might have added an extra edge to Beane's character, showing that he had moved on from his first marriage. Instead, audiences were left feeling sorry for Billy, as they all thought he was still enamoured with his ex.
