10 Deleted Sci-Fi Movie Scenes You Need To See

6. Aliens - Ripley's Real Daughter

Another appearance for James Cameron, and another bit of Earth-based backstory which could have fleshed out a space-based thriller’s central character.

Yes, Aliens is already a pretty perfect horror sci fi action thriller, and there are few ways to improve on the genre-mashing classic. That said, a deleted scene which sees Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley awoken from hyper sleep would have served to deepen her relationship with cute kid Newt and the line “get away from her you bitch!” would have had even more emotional resonance than in the finished film.

Here, Ripley wakes to the news that her daughter is dead, and that little Amanda didn’t die young, either; due to the insane time period Ripley has been out, Amanda lived into her sixties without her mother ever fulfilling her promise to be back “before your eleventh birthday”.

It’s a poignant addition to a film which, whilst awesome, is hardly overburdened with emotion, and would have served to flesh out Ripley’s character further if kept in.
