10 Deleted Stars That Were Bigger Than The Final Movie

4. Collectively, Everyone Who Was Cut From To The Wonder

Due to his penchant for severely editing down the roles of his actors without telling them, Terrence Malick has proved controversial. He's drawn the wrath of Mickey Rourke for cutting him right the hell out of The Thin Red Line, and angered Sean Penn (The Tree Of Life), Christopher Plummer (The New World) and Adrien Brody (The Thin Red Line) for seriously trimming their parts in post-production. Even Malick seemed to be taking it too far, though, when he completely excised Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, Oscar nominees Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen from his seventh film, To The Wonder. Though the final product has a 'name' in the lead (Ben Affleck, though it must be noted that To The Wonder was in the can and doing the rounds before the actor/director's 2013 awards season comeback), Malick removed the four high-profile stars, all of whom regularly headline films of their own. Barry Pepper and Amanda Peet also fell victim to Malick's editorial scissors on To The Wonder, and though the finished film gives you a good view of Affleck getting lost in nature or something with Olga Kurylenko, it's difficult not to pine for the sheer combined star wattage Malick left on the cutting room floor.
