10 Most Desirable Girlfriends In Comic Book Movies

3. Mariko Yashida (Tao Okamoto) €“ The Wolverine

Tao Okamoto had a rough road ahead of her when she was cast as Mariko Yashida in The Wolverine. Not only was she playing one of the most important superhero love interests, but this was also her debut in the world of film. In the comics, Mariko was the daughter of Lord Shingen, who had turned the Clan Yashida into a criminal empire. After Shingen was killed by Wolverine, Mariko and Logan were briefly engaged before intervention by a supervillain drove them apart. From then, Mariko dedicated herself to ridding her family of the criminal influence her father had corrupted it with, becoming a fierce warrior in her own right. Okamoto€™s portrayal of Mariko was perfectly in line with the comics. Although she does have a few damsel-esque moments, for the most part Mariko becomes a huge help to Logan throughout the course of their journey together, and she proves capable of handling herself in many scenes, being a trained knife-thrower. Although Mariko is eventually killed in the comics by Wolverine€™s enemies, that fate has thankfully not occurred in the end of The Wolverine. And with a third Wolverine film in the works, we just might see Okamoto return for a repeat performance as Logan€™s true love.
