10. Darren Aronofsky Almost Directed RoboCop

Despite being a mostly unnecessary idea in the first place, the Robocop "reboot" was suggested as early as 2005, before inevitably stalling until 2008 when MGM got all interested in it again. That led to the revelation at Comic Con that year that Aronofsky was on board to direct David Self's script. For the next two years the director argued with the studio, who wanted a 3D movie after the success of Avatar - he wasn't against the idea - but then financial difficulties with the studio and Black Swan's production pushed Aronofsky away from the project, even if he did leave the door open on a return.
