10 Directors Who Almost Directed 2014's Biggest Movies

7. David Yates Almost Directed Transformers 4

The painful inevitability of the continued success of the Transformers franchise is difficult to take, and with The Rock lined up for the next sequel (despite it being set up as an off-planet sci-fi by the end of Extinction) it's not going to go away any time soon. The latest was a billion dollar movie, as unfeasible as that may seem, which is probably why Michael Bay went back on his decision to stop directing them. When Dark Of The Moon was in production, Bay confirmed he wouldn't come back, which led to a host of directors being suggested as replacements including Roland Emmerich, Joe Johnston, Jon Turteltaub, Stephen Sommers and Louis Leterrier, which gives some indication of the quality expected. The most interesting of the lot was arguably David Yates, the Harry Potter helmsman who was a front-runner for a while, but ultimately Bay decided that he wanted to keep control of his baby. What It Would Have Been Like A departure, you'd like to think: but then say what you want about Michael Bay, but he knows exactly how to make money out of his properties. So maybe it wouldn't have been as successful.
