10 Directors Who Almost Directed 2014's Biggest Movies
5. Brett Ratner Almost Directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The new Turtles franchise - which is set for two more films in the next two years (God help us) - was a thing as far back as 2009 when the rights changed hands and everyone thought the property was ripe for a reboot. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes came in as the production team, and the Transformers supremo ingratiated himself to all Turtles fans by suggesting they might be reimagined as aliens. Perhaps that was merely a distraction tactic from the fact that the two names most hotly tipped for the directing job were Wrath Of The Titans' Jonathan Liebesman and Brett Ratner (responsible for some eye-gougingly bad cinematic atrocities). In the end it was the former who was chosen to be the fall guy for Bay's various hair-brained ideas. What It Would Have Been Like Terrible, just as it was under Liebesman: quite frankly it never mattered who was in the director's chair because Michael Bay's identity is the most pronounced in the entire film anyway.
