10 Directors Who Should Helm Star Trek 3

1. Joe Cornish

See, now that's the favoured rumour that's making the rounds right now, but Edgar Wright might not actually be the right man for the job. He's proven himself to have a particularly idiosyncratic style of filmmaking which might not quite work with the Star Trek films so far (and, really, wouldn't quite work with any Hollywood studio film €“ which is definitely a compliment of the highest order). That, amongst other reasons, is why his collaborator Joe Cornish would be a much better fit. Cornish and Wright worked together on the script for the first Tintin film, and Wright served as executive producer on Cornish's directorial debut Attack The Block. And if you haven't seen Attack The Block...why haven't you seen Attack The Block? It's one of the freshest, smartest, most inventive and exciting sci-fi films of the past decade, an alien invasion thriller set in a council house high-rise that never panders to stereotypes and recalls John Carpenter at his best. Plus it had plenty of brilliant, cool action, a top-notch cast of rookies and some really great (and terrifying) aliens. Since that barnstorming debut Cornish has been circling a few projects, including an adaptation of classic sci-fi novel Snow Crash. But he was JJ Abrams' top choice for directing Star Trek 3 and, well, it'd cause his BFF Adam Buxton no end of righteous, furious envy, if nothing else.
