10 Directors Who Should Helm Star Trek 3

2. Edgar Wright

Right now the safe money on the director who could replace Robert Orci on Star Trek 3 is a surprisingly left-field choice, too. But, then, this is Hollywood. Stranger things have happened. And stranger things have been rumoured, like all of the ensuing gossip that followed when Edgar Wright dropped out of Marvel's Ant-Man, a film he'd been slowly coaxing to live since before their Cinematic Universe even began. And now they've gone for the director of Bring It On instead. Apparently part of the reason Wright departed Ant-Man was because his unique vision and visual style didn't quite match up with the rest of the Marvel Universe. That could potentially be an issue with Star Trek, too, with Paramount most likely eager to make sure the third entry in the series resembles the first two pretty closely. Based on his recent work, though, he seems to be toning down some of his more flashy foibles. Plus Edgar does have some history with the series. He directed one shot of the Into Darkness, thanks to a set visit sorted by his old mucker Simon Pegg. Getting those two together is always a treat, and Wright's another due a second crack at a Hollywood blockbuster, after the noble failure of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
