This one might be a little more left-field. Caurso is a director who's been working steadily since the early noughties (helming cult crime drama The Salton Sea, psychological thriller Taking Lives and stylish sports flick Two For The Money), but who really broke through with a couple of collaborations with the now infamous Shia LaBeouf: unofficial Rear Window remake Disturbia, and paranoid terrorist action film Eagle Eye. For a hot minute, it looked like everything was coming up Caruso! Then came young adult science fiction adaptation I Am Number Four, which did well enough, but didn't exactly set the box office on fire. Since then Caruso has struggled to get another big film off the ground, instead settling for a smaller character piece called Standing Up, which got the best reviews of his career so far. It's probably time he got back on the horse. I Am Number Four was actually a pretty nifty little spin on superhero films, Disturbia managed to transcend its Hitchcock roots, and Eagle Eye was fun despite a stupid twist. Caruso knows how to handle a big film, whilst also focussing on the smaller characters in the middle of the action. It's about time he got his third big chance.
