Speaking of people who deserve second chances, Andrew Stanton may have been burnt with his first experience working on a live-action film the Pixar veteran had previously worked on animated fare like A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, and WALL-E but maybe all he needs is another opportunity to prove himself. After all, it's not entirely his fault that John Carter was such a flop. He made a pretty good film, at the very least. No, the reason John Carter tanked is...well, there were a few reasons. For one, the decades-old book it was based on has had its concepts and themes strip-mined for basically everything successful sci-fi movie ever made, from Star Wars to Avatar. For another, apparently Stanton himself insisted that audiences were familiar enough with the character they didn't need to do much with the marketing. Neither of which are really issues with Star Trek. John Carter was a damn fine action film, and managed to remain faithful to the text whilst not being slavishly devoted something that gels nicely with the rebooted Trek series so far. If Stanton can find the time in his schedule whilst also working on Finding Dory, this could be a perfect match. And maybe Taylor Kitsch would be in it.
