10 Directors Who Need To Get Back On The Big Screen
6. Joe Cornish
It has only been three years since Adam Buxton's on-screen other half released his debut film Attack The Block, which was a monster hit not least among Cornish's already cult and dedicated fan base. The film also garnered international attention while being a critical success. Cornish has always excelled in his humorous and alternative take on pop culture: his voice brings a youthful energy to the British film scene but also carries with it the well-crafted weight of a man who knows what he's doing. Film needs this younger generation of British film directors, with their finger on the pulse and their off-brand humour. The one-time TV and radio star has been busy breaking into the Hollywood writing circuit; co-authoring Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's joint Tintin venture, while also penning Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man. Though it is great to see Cornish's writing talents recognized by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, it is also imperative that he doesn't neglect his new found knack for behind the camera. The fact that his style of writing has been picked up by Hollywood giants only strengthens the argument that Cornish's voice is one that should be heard. His well-crafted debut shows that he has the skill to carry it. Apparently tied to a project called Section 6 (currently in pre-production with no release date to be heard of) Cornish might be willing to lay down his pen and pick up the camera somewhere in the not too distant future.
