Hands up if you never knew even knew there was a Conan the Barbarian remake released in 2011. And even those of us who saw it upon release likely forgot it long ago, given the predominantly negative reviews and the fact that it bombed at the box office.

In a recent GQ interview, star Jason Momoa said that the movie "sucked" and, despite his initial enthusiasm for the project, it was "turned into a big pile of s**t."

Following Momoa's remarks, director Marcus Nispel - who has since quit filmmaking to become a property developer - chimed in as well, telling PEOPLE that he agreed with the star's comments:

"As a filmmaker in this system you are a dog on many leashes. Trying to get Conan done under those circumstances was the worst experience that I had and I was as unhappy with the result... I am happy though that none of this got in the way of Jason's career path… I always stood by the decision to make Conan with him.
My friend John Milius once said: 'There is always a sense of defeat in every victory.' In regards to having had the pleasure and privilege of having given Jason his first leading part, I say: 'There can also be a sense of victory in a defeat.'"
