5. Wes Anderson
The Movie: The Quirky Indie Film That Annoys As Many People As It Entertains Referred to by his haters as "the hipster director", Wes Anderson has fashioned a career entertaining those who like their cinema a little...unconventional...shall we say. His films virulently deny the general style and aesthetic, opting for oddball protagonists who are placed in excessive situations, usually to hilarious effect. Even when Anderson tried his hand at an animated film - that many assumed would be aimed at kids - he came out with a delightfully bizarre mix that was really far better suited for adults than children. There's no denying that Anderson is an acquired taste, and it's a given that if you don't like one of his films, you're probably not going to like the rest. Some label his work as pretentious and self-indulgent, whereas others see it as poetic and imaginative; whatever side you come down upon, it's difficult to think of him ever deviating from this method, especially when it's brought him so much success.
