10 Directors Who Always Make The Same Movie

6. Woody Allen

Woody AllenThe Movie: The Low-Budget Examination Of Self-Indulgent Middle-Class Neurosis In An Exotic Locale I love Woody Allen. In fact, I'm something of an apologist - I generally enjoy even his "bad" films, because I just love listening to Allen's witty dialogue and his musings on life, even when his best days are clearly behind him as a writer. However, even I won't try to deny the fact that he essentially makes the exact same film every time, just with different actors and a new European setting. His films don't tend to cost much - hence him being able to churn out one a year even if the previous one flops - and they almost always are concerned with the follies of the middle-class intelligentsia (that is to say, First World Problems). The protagonists tend to mirror Allen himself - in that they are patently neurotic - and though Allen treads over a lot of the same ground in many of his films, he still has an inimitable appeal that will have me watching every single one of his films. Could you see Allen ever making an action film? A sci-fi? A horror flick? Or anything that strays even remotely from his formula?
