10 Directors Who Bailed On Their Own Movie Franchises (But Should Have Stuck Around)

4. Oren Peli - Paranormal Activity

Oren Peli

To be fair to him, Oren Peli only wrote and directed the first of the four Paranormal Activity movies to date, but given that it's the only good one of the bunch, would it not make sense to keep him gainfully employed as the series' helmer, rather than merely a producer with a "characters written by" credit?

Given that Peli hasn't been up to a whole lot in the meantime - serving as a producer on the Insidious movies and directing his long-stalled project Area 51 - why not bring him back to the franchise in the future, if Paramount are insistent upon milking it for every last drop?

The sequels have generally got progressively worse, with the fourth film being regarded near-universally as the worst, while a fifth film is reportedly in post-production now, though is missing out on a characteristic annualised release, instead holding off until next Halloween. If this series is going to keep going, perhaps bring Peli back for number six?
