10 Directors Who Could Replace Josh Trank On Star Wars
9. Craig Zobel
Zobel just might be ready for the big time. His criminally under-watched debut Compliance oozed with tension and his follow up, the dystopian Z For Zachariah, has garnered strong review in its limited festival presence so far. He’s definitely not a big name, but he seemingly has all the qualities Disney is looking for: his debut was a strong character work on a small budget and he followed it up with a bigger, more ambitious film.
In Compliance, he managed to turn a simple phone call to a fast food restaurant into a deeply unnerving and disturbing story. Now imagine what he could do with something as outwardly perturbing as a faceless bounty hunter in a world of criminals.
Zobel has made his mark by making the viewer work. His films aren’t inaccessible, but rather have a slow burn handled by his gentle touch. This results in strong characters present in an unsettling world. He’s a dynamic new voice and could craft a very unique and ominous corner of the Star Wars universe.
