Michôd is the Australian sensation behind the incredible crime film Animal Kingdom. If you aren’t familiar with the film, just know it helped put actors like Joel Edgerton, Ben Mendelsohn, and Sullivan Stapleton on the map, so he clearly has an eye for talent. His follow up, The Rover, while not as brilliant, was a very solid dystopian film and at the very least, reaffirmed his keen visual eye, and ability to draw out strong performances.
The director's real strength lies in creating a palpable air of intensity in his films. They start slow and draw the viewer in only to unleash the brutal reality of their worlds when least expected. It's his crafting of crime and violence which truly sets him apart.
His strengths work perfectly for a Boba Fett film as Animal Kingdom is about a young man being slowly overwhelmed by the surrounding influence of his criminal family. He's proven he can handle the subject matter, now all he is has to do is change the setting.
