10 Directors Who Just Made Their Worst Movie
5. McG - Uglies
Like so many music video director-turned-filmmakers not called David Fincher, McG's career making movies has been a rollercoaster ride of periodic successes and panned flops.
McG's more warmly embraced efforts are Charlie's Angels and The Babysitter, while his lesser-regarded films include Terminator Salvation, This Means War, 3 Days to Kill, and Rim of the World. But McG truly hit the bottom of the well - for now, at least - with his new Netflix sci-fi drama Uglies, an adaptation of the hit 2005 YA novel of the same name.
Arriving roughly an entire decade after Hollywood's YA boom began to dry up, Uglies feels immediately dated - a fact made worse by the hilarious decision to cast actors in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s as the central teenagers. Just... no.
On top of this, the script is embarrassingly bad and the VFX are laughable, ensuring that cast and crew alike had no chance at all of elevating this utter dreck.
