10 Directors Who Just Made Their Worst Movie

3. Steve McQueen - Blitz

Blitz really only merits placement on this list because the standard of Steve McQueen's work leading up to it is so astronomically high.

McQueen's enviable filmography is populated by terrific, critically acclaimed dramas such as Hunger, Shame, the Best Picture-winning 12 Years a Slave - for which McQueen received a well-earned Best Director nomination - and the star-studded thriller Widows.

So, there was inevitably much hype for his new World War II drama, which many awards pundits pegged as a major awards player the moment it was announced. And while certainly not a bad film by any means, Blitz is a disappointingly by-the-numbers war film that feels the polar opposite to the bolder, more challenging nature of basically everything else McQueen has made up to this point.

Blitz still garnered broadly positive reviews from critics, yet many were simply left with a feeling of, "That's it?," given McQueen's tremendous prior pedigree.
