10 Directors Who Just Made Their Worst Movie

2. J.C. Chandor - Kraven the Hunter

Megalopolis Bad
Sony Pictures Releasing

While it wasn't remotely surprising that Kraven the Hunter turned out to be J.C. Chandor's worst film so far, it was nevertheless disappointing to see it plumb quite such dire critical depths.

After all, Chandor is a supremely talented filmmaker with numerous raved-about projects to his name - especially Margin Call, All Is Lost, and A Most Violent Year - and even his most tepidly-received film, the Netflix thriller Triple Frontier, still rocks a not-bad 71%.

But Chandor's unexpected foray into superhero territory settled at a brutal 16%, with critics and audiences alike finding little to praise here, from Aaron Taylor-Johnson's oddly flat performance in the title role, to the woefully clunky screenplay, and risible visual effects throughout.

Though Chandor delivers a few welcome splashes of grisly R-rated action, for the most part it's tough to see any of his vision at all in what's yet another soulless Sony superhero flick. At least he's a talented enough filmmaker that there's a strong chance he bounces firmly back with his next piece of work.
