Michael Mann is mostly known for his critically acclaimed crime dramas. He kicked off cinemas' love for Hannibal Lecter years before Silence Of The Lambs with his film, Manhunter. Mann went on to direct classics like Heat, Collateral, and Miami Vice but, more recently Mann has been inspired by the world of science fiction.

In 2017, he told the website The Playlist that he was working on an untitled science fiction project. He also mentioned that he was inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar. He told the website, “ ‘Avatar‘ is an extraordinary achievement. It exceeds all the expectations that can be projected on one of his projects.
