2. Michael Mann

Goodwill Built On: The Last of The Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Ali, CollateralGoodwill Squandered On: Miami Vice In 2006 Michael Mann had been on a hot streak of movies that won critical acclaim and major awards. After his latest success, 2004's Collateral, Mann felt he had built enough critical and audience goodwill to revisit the 80s television series he helped create, Miami Vice. Miami Vice's production ran into trouble when the film's co-star, Jamie Foxx, who Mann had worked with on Collateral, refused to finish the film after real gunfire broke out on set in the Dominican Republic. Foxx's departure forced Mann to rewrite Miami Vice's ending and the compromised final product divided critics and audiences alike. It wasn't until 2009 that Mann got back in the saddle with Public Enemies.
