10 Directors Who Were Kicked Off A Movie

8. George Kukor - Gone With the Wind

Richard Donner Superman
Warner Bros.

Still the highest-grossing movie in cinema history when adjusted for inflation, Gone With the Wind is a legendary Hollywood production, both onscreen and behind-the-scenes. After a torturous two-year casting and writing process, director George Kukor finally started shooting the epic romance... and was fired three weeks later.

After frequent clashes with both producer David O. Selznick and star Clark Gable, Cukor was dumped and replaced with Wizard of Oz helmer Victor Fleming, who struggled immensely with the production and was himself replaced with Sam Wood for three weeks of filming after suffering from exhaustion.

Shattering box office records and winning eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting Actress and Adapted Screenplay, Gone With the Wind has a suitably epic reputation to match its journey to the big screen.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
