10 Directors Who Were Kicked Off A Movie

7. Martin Brest - WarGames

Richard Donner Superman
United Artists

WarGames is still a great movie, despite how cheesy and dated everything is when viewed now. However, if Martin Brest had not been fired twelve days into shooting and replaced with John Badham, then the final product could have been markedly different.

Brest had taken a darker approach to the material and given the story a 'teen rebellion' element, which led to disagreements with the producers and his subsequent dismissal. Badham was brought on, did what he was told and delivered the all-ages adventure we all know and love today.

While WarGames lives on as a beloved cinematic time capsule, Martin Brest probably didn't lose any sleep over it. He would make Beverly Hills Cop instead, going on to direct Midnight Run and land an Academy Award nomination for Scent of a Woman over the next decade before nuking his own career in 2003 with Gigli.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
