10 Directors Who Will Ruin Upcoming Films

3. Robert Rodriquez - Alita: Battle Angel

Dumbo Tim Burton

Live-action Manga adaptations are already cause for concern following the lukewarm critical reception and whitewashing controversy surrounding Ghost in the Shell's remake, so 2018's Alita: Battle Angel had the odds stacked against it even before this questionable directorial appointment.

Robert Rodriguez has been tasked with reimagining the anime classic for the big screen, and his recent track records suggests he's in no way up for the job.

Handing the Texan filmmaker a $200 million budget is a bad idea when his recent projects and how they turned out are scrutinised. Spy Kids: 4D was marred by terrible CGI, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For was a disjointed mess, and the Machete films offer little beyond irony and a massive body count.

Battle Angel producer, none other than James Cameron, was once linked with the director's chair. He's a filmmaker with the right credentials to pull this tricky adaptation off, basically the attributes Rodriguez hasn't possessed for a long time.
