The man behind Titanic is taking his sweet time with Avatar 2 and 3, which are scheduled to launch back to back in 2020 and 2021, respectively, so isn't announcing a fourth instalment so far in advance pushing it a bit?
Yes, it is, and confirming a fifth is taking the biscuit, even for a director of Cameron's calibre. He's going to be making Avatar sequels for the rest of his life, and who's to say there will be any demand for them after the second film?
The Terminator 2 helmer's filmmaking talents are not in question, but his approach to the Avatar franchise is. He's made bold claims that these sequels will "reinvent cinema", which means anything short of mind-blowing will be a disappointment.
