10 Directors With Make Or Break Movies For 2020

9. Paul W.S. Anderson - Monster Hunter

No Time To Die
Sony Pictures Releasing

If you weren't aware, Monster Hunter currently sits as one of the most cherished fantasy role-playing video games ever to be released into the wild. Devoted fans of the franchise have been diligently playing since the original Monster Hunter debuted back in 2004 and with this unwavering loyalty comes a certain level of ownership over the computer-generated world.

So, when it was announced that Paul W.S. Anderson would be taking charge of a Monster Hunter movie - starring Milla Jovovich - which would drop in 2020, these very same fans were sceptical to say the least.

History tells us that video game adaptations haven't gone down all that well with the game's original audience or, well, any audience at all, really.

Couple that with the fact that Anderson is intrinsically linked to the lacklustre Resident Evil film franchise and the recipe for a trashy interpretation of this universe - which could potentially be as vast and spectacular as Avatar's Pandora - seems inevitable.

Perhaps Anderson will produce something memorable and go on to set up an epic new Monster Hunter landscape for us all to enjoy, or maybe he'll just disappear into the movie-making wilderness off the back of yet another ill-fated and poorly executed concept.
