10 Directors With Make Or Break Movies For 2020

8. John Krasinski - A Quiet Place Part II

No Time To Die
Paramount Pictures

A Quiet Place was one of the genuine shocks of 2018.

Actor/director John Krasinski's first big foray into the world of horror saw him playing the father of a family - alongside real life wife Emily Blunt - who are forced to tip-toe around or risk being viciously mutilated by an alien beast.

With the tension more tangible than the popcorn you'd bought but couldn't eat - as you'd risk being the loudest thing in the whole damn cinema (!) - people around the world became wrapped up in the extremely silent environment which had been presented to them by Krasinski.

Now, with A Quiet Place Part II set to drop in 2020, the bar has been set.

If Krasinski can produce a feature with more twists and turns - not to mention perfectly timed jump scares - than its predecessor then this project will be deemed as an undeniably successful move.

However, if the former The Office star fails to capture lightening in a bottle twice, perhaps Hollywood will perceive that first film as a horror-fluke and nudge him back towards his more comedic or action (Jack Ryan) stylings.

The first trailers for Part II seem to suggest a new narrative based around Cillian Murphy's desperate Emmett and new 'threats that lurk beyond the sand path' as Paramount's synopsis puts it. So, fingers crossed this new direction can make it two-for-two for the relatively fresh director.
