10 Directors With The Most Movies In The IMDb Top 250
3. Christopher Nolan (7)
The Movies: The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar, Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins Perhaps more than any other director featured on this list, Christopher Nolan's inclusion is the least deserved; that's not to discredit his talents or indeed his vast and varied filmography, but to shed a light on the nature of the IMDb Top 250 as a "popularity contest" in which an newer movie is more likely to make the cut simply because it's new. Which is to say, Nolan's position as a director with a monumental seven inclusions on the list seems a little at odds with the other directors, all of whom are considered - generally speaking - to be amongst some of the greatest and most influential filmmakers to have worked within the medium of film. Nolan is a talented director, but it often feels as though audiences are quick to heap him with praise; surely a period of time is necessary in which to reflect on his movies, years - or decades - after their release? Memento, Nolan's best film, deserves its place, perhaps, and one could certainly argue that The Dark Knight, Inception and Batman Begins are worthwhile candidates. But Interstellar (though beautiful) is a flawed movie, and The Dark Knight Rises defines the excessive, gloomy ill-judged modern blockbuster in all its glory. So Nolan still has a way to go, whilst declarations that he's "the new Kubrick" seem a little short-sighted. He is yet to make a true masterpiece, after all.
