10 Disappointing Action Movies You Should Die Before You See

8. Ultraviolet (2006)

On paper, a collaboration between the director of Equilibrium and the star of the Resident Evil movies sounds like a cool idea. In practice, it€™s a boneheaded sci-fi thriller with Tron-like effects and laughably bad dialogue. Clad in a midriff-baring bodysuit that changes colour at will, Milla Jovovich plays Violet Song Jat Shariff, a lab worker infected by €œHGV€ (Hemo Glophagia Virus), which gives the recipient super-strength and vampire-like canines. Not so bad, you might think, but there€™s a catch: every €œhemo€ dies within 12 years of being infected. You see, an American weapons lab discovered the virus and tried to modify it to create super soldiers, but it got loose and caused a pandemic so now the sufferers are being rounded up by The Archministry, a shadowy organization headed by the sinister Daxos (Nick Chinlund). The Howard Hughes of villains, Daxos won€™t drink out of a cup he hasn€™t sterilized, carries a machine-gun in germ-free packaging and wears noseplugs throughout the movie. When Violet calls him a tyrannical, egomaniacal narcissist, he says, €œYes, it may be true. I might have some quirks.€ Jovovich subsequently returned to the Resident Evil franchise.
