10 Most Disappointing Comic Book Movies Of All-Time
8. Iron Man 3 (2013)
Iron Man 3 is probably one of the most dividing comic book movies in cinema history; whereas many enjoyed its conceits as a buddy flick, complete with quipping dialogue, rapid-fire jokes, and a generally lightweight plot, others thought it blasphemous in its insincerity, bombastic action scenes and the liberties it took with a certain famous villains. Let's not beat about the bush: it was the Mandarin that caused such an uproar amongst fans and general movie-goers alike, who felt betrayed and disappointed with the way Marvel handled the character. Whether or not you felt like Iron Man 3 was a wasted opportunity or a hell of a lot of fun, the big Mandarin reveal - which exposes the villain, played by Ben Kingsley, as nothing but an actor-for-hire - left a lot of people feeling like Marvel had gone a step too far. The movie itself, fast-faced and infinitely more solid than the likes of Iron Man 2, still holds up, but it would be inaccurate to suggest that Tony Stark's third solo outing did not leave millions of people disappointed. Had they embraced Kingsley as the actual Mandarin? A potential classic, maybe?
