10 Most Disappointing Comic Book Movies Of All-Time

5. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

When Bryan Singer left the X-Men franchise after Warner Bros. offered him the chance to direct Superman Returns, 20th Century Fox were left trying to find a replacement director who would be able to replicate the success of the first two installments. After trying for Joss Whedon, among others, the job eventually fell to Matthew Vaughn, who was forced to leave during pre-production due to scheduling issues. His replacement, and the man whose name now appears beneath the "Directed By" tag? Brett Ratner, best known for his Rush Hour movies. When a studio goes with Brett Ratner, you know they must be out of options. Still, to be fair to the guy, Ratner admitted from the very beginning that he wasn't familiar with the X-Men franchise - something that feels rather apparent when you watch the film. After the excellent X-Men and X2, then, fans were handed a final chapter that felt far less polished and noticeably lacking in the heart and emotion departments. It's an entertaining film in places, but it also feels sillier and inconsequential. Safe to say the wait for The Last Stand wasn't really worth it.
