The Hype: Judd Apatow has built a reputation for great characters and well-observed comedic writing and acting. Some people were let down by Funny People. I was not one of them. So I was looking forward to this one. The Reality: Oof. Oddly enough, Jackson is Apatow's kin on one front: their love of looooong running times. Which was never a problem for me with Apatow's films before, but this one is just formless meandering. It makes the movie feel way, way longer than it is. But if it were at all pleasant, I wouldn't mind. Except that the movie's an exercise is off-putting redundancy, with endless scenes of unlikable characters fighting one another, and few laughs in between. So what disappointed you in the theater this year? Sound off in the comments.
