10 Disappointing Movies That Killed Our Nostalgia
9. The Expendables
Unlike many films on this list, The Expendables doesn't try to ride the nostalgia of one specific film. Instead, it set out to be a general throw-back to the big, sweaty '80s action movies of old. The cast featured Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews, whilst it was directed by Sly himself.
No matter how 'bad' the film, you're guaranteed a good time, right? Nope. Inexplicably, The Expendables opted for the fast cutting style of action sequences that many have derided in post-2000 action films, making it feel like the edit was compensating for the ageing stars' lack of finesse.
The Expendables and its sequels just aren't as fun as they should have been, totally failing to capture what made the '80s such a great decade for action movie fans.
