10 Disastrous Movies That Actors And Directors Still Haven't Recovered From
7. Kevin Costner - The Postman
A lot of people think that Waterworld marked the beginning of the end for Kevin Costner's time at the top end of the Hollywood A-list, but the famously troubled production actually ended up turning a profit once home video sales were taken into account.
Instead, it was The Postman that marked the beginning of the end for his reputation as a reliable and bankable presence on either side of the camera. Earning a little over $20m against a $80m, the movie's critical and commercial failure brought his impressive streak of success to a screeching halt, and over two decades later and he still hasn't managed to recapture anywhere close to that sort of momentum.
Having won the Oscar for Best Director with his first movie, Costner hasn't directed anything since 2003's Open Range, and his big screen output has largely been reduced to spouting exposition as the wizened old father figure in action-orientated fare, besides a bizarre attempt to reinvent himself as an action hero in 3 Days to Kill and Criminal.
