Long before he was given the reigns of Middle-Earth, Peter Jackson was a struggling director making his mark on the world with low-budget films. One of his earliest movies was 1987's Bad Taste, a science-fiction comedy horror splatter film the New Zealand native wrote, produced, photographed, co-edited, co-starred, and directed.

The movie is all about an alien invasion of a fictional New Zealand village called Kaihoro. The aliens are there to harvest human beings for their intergalactic fast-food franchise, but they don't show up without at least some opposition in the form of a four-man paramilitary force intent on stopping the aliens.

The cult classic is filled with disgusting imagery that runs the gamut from standard-issue genre violence to over-the-top gross-out humor. There are several deaths and torture scenes, but the gore steps up when the paramilitary group infiltrates the aliens' house to find it filled with bloody boxes filled with human remains.

One guy vomits into a bowl, and the other aliens snack on that tasty treat, but one of the nastiest moments come when one character gets his head shot off, and starts losing his brains. It's no problem, as he used a belt to hold his head together. That guy manages to chainsaw some aliens, which is memorable enough in what amounts to an immensely bloody, yet entertaining film.
