10 Disgustingly Gory Moments in Otherwise Tame Films

7. Shot To The Head - The House Of The Devil

house of the devil If you€™re a big horror fan and haven€™t seen The House of the Devil I implore you to stop reading this and go watch it now! Anyone who has seen this wonderful independent 2009 horror film directed by Ti West will tell you that it€™s a slow burn but a great tribute to the 70s and 80s style of horror films. It was shot on 16mm and was even released on VHS as a marketing ploy. The House of the Devil earns its R rating when one of its most shocking and gross moments occurs. Consider this a SPOILER warning for those who haven€™t seen the film. After Megan drops her friend off to babysit at a strange, remote house, she comes across a guy who startles her when he pops out of nowhere to offer a light for her cigarette. The guy seems harmless enough but then he quickly whips out a gun and shots her point blank in the head, sending her brain matter and skull fragments all over her dashboard and windshield. It€™s a gory, shocking moment (the film€™s first) that comes pretty late into the runtime that lets you know the filmmakers aren€™t playing around.
