10 Disney Animated Deaths That Scarred You For Life

When you sit in that darkened theatre all primed and ready to watch the latest Disney effort, one of the last things you'd expect is for a character to meet a horrifying, brutal, deeply disturbing death.

And yet it's more common than you'd think, with a number of characters snuffing it in a fashion that goes against everything the Disney logo would suggest. The House of Mouse has been producing animated feature-films since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs all the way back in 1937, and since then, their movies have become peppered with countless darker, more mature moments - and we have the deaths to prove it.

Of course, Disney's animated movies are still 99 percent joy, wonder, and adventure, and that will probably never change. The great thing here is that kids can stare in awe at all the bright colours and whimsical characters, while us adults can appreciate these more delicate moments, - even though they might cause us more emotional damage than we'd like to admit.

Syndrome's death may have been over relatively quickly, but those few seconds were probably the most agonisingly painful that anyone could be forced to bear. Being sucked into a jet propeller, chopped to pieces and then exploded is not a nice way to go, and for a family film, it was a surprisingly brutal way to have somebody killed off.

It's not just the death itself - it's those few moments before he perishes. The way he scrambles to hold onto something. The way his face quickly realises what's happening. The way he turns his head to look at the sharp-edged propeller as the terror quickly sets in. Of course, we aren't shown the bloody results, but sometimes it's what you don't see that makes a scene impactful, and this moment definitely reinforced that notion. "No capes" indeed...
