7. Yzma Was Just An Ambitious Woman Who Hates Incompetence
DisneyOf course, the ambitious woman is going to be pegged as a villain. But let's take a look at Cuzco for a second, shall we? He's a pretty terrible ruler, self-obsessed and uninterested in the day to day responsibilities of the job. All he wants to do is have his tacky little water park, and screw the rest of the kingdom. If Yzma was in charge, she would have ruled with an iron fist, but at least she would have ruled. Cuzco had an elderly man thrown from the highest tower for interrupting his theme music. You really want to live in a country where he's in charge? We'd take our chances with Yzma, thanks. Realistically, she's the smartest and most determined character in the film, and arguably the most qualified for the position. It seems likely that Cuzco inherited the throne when he was a kid, so she probably served as regent, effectively ruling the kingdom until he came of age. Let's face it. Being in charge of a country isn't all puppy dogs and rainbows -- you need someone who's going to get things done. Yzma? She gets things done.
