6. Gaston Just Wanted To Save Belle
DisneyGaston isn't so much a villain as he is really really vain. And while that's not the most admirable quality in the world, it doesn't exactly fall into the evil category. All Gaston really does in Beauty and the Beast is attempt to rescue a girl who is being held against her will in a castle by a giant wolf bear thing. It's not really his fault that she came down with a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome and decided that she was in love with the Beast. How was he supposed to know that? It's not exactly healthy. But if you're going to pass judgment on Gaston for raiding the castle, you probably take issue with Prince Philip waging war against Maleficent, right? Because if you take away the love story between Belle and the Beast (something Gaston doesn't know about), it's basically the same sort of thing. Bottom line, Gaston spends most of the film being overbearing and annoying, while the Beast spends most of the movie holding girls against their will, having a really nasty temper, and shouting at people. But somehow Gaston is the villain.
