10 Disturbing Life Lessons Disney Movies Teaches You
4. Going Just Around The River Bend Never Hurt Anyone
Except that it did and it almost hurt every female character in Disney films too. I'm not referring to the song Pocahontas sings expressing her desire for adventure, but the often repeated theme of many Disney films of going against the wisdom and advice from parents to explore one's self and discover destiny. The problem with that of course is that throwing sage wisdom to the wind usually results in an unhappy life full of regret. Think about it, Disney girls consistently go against their parents (usually a single father) for a guy. How many times have you seen that happen in real life and what was the result? Yeah, that's what I thought. Once I knew a girl in her early twenties who despite her age was still overly obsessed Disney films. She gave her friends a heart attack one night when she accepted a ride from two boys she had never met before in her life and disappeared for a couple of hours. When I asked why she would do something that stupid the shocking reply was almost verbatim something Ariel, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Mulan, or Belle would have said to each of their respective worried fathers. It was scary.
