10 Disturbing Movies You'll Struggle To Finish

8. August Underground's Mordum

Not all disturbing and challenging movies have a serious point to make. While some filmmakers set out to disturb because they feel the subject matter is of great significance, others are just out to establish themselves as purveyors of cinematic filth and depravity.

Fred Vogel is a filmmaker who is under no illusions that his films are in any way "art", and August Underground's Mordum represents the pinnacle (or should that be the low point) of his career as producer of low rent modern day video nasties. Filmed on cheap video to give it the look and feel of a snuff film, it features rape (including the rape of a dead child), torture and murder of the most gag-inducing variety.

When Vogel took August Underground's Mordum to a Canadian film festival he was stopped by authorities, who were convinced the film was a genuine snuff film. Vogel had to spend 10 hours in a customs prison while he proved his innocence - somewhere most people would probably rather be than actually watching his vile and depraved shocker.
